QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Entrants may seek further clarification of the information presented here by submitting questions to the competition organizers via e-mail at bridge@riverlifetaskforce.org. No questions may be addressed to the members of the Jury. All questions must be received by January 6,2006. Any changes to this document resulting from answers to the questions will become part of the competition instructions. All questions, answers, and resulting program clarifications will be posted on the competition website. Answers will not be mailed or emailed directly to the questioner; therefore, entrants should check the website on a regular basis.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Entrants will be required to submit two 30" x 40" ( 0.762 x 1.016 meters) presentation boards, with the 30" sides oriented vertically, and organized side-by-side. The boards should have a maximum thickness of .25" (12.7 mm) and weigh no more than 5 pounds (6.8 kilograms) each. The boards must lie flat against an easel or wall, and may not include anything that projects more than .25" (6.35mm) from the surface or that might damage other boards when stacked.

Presentation drawings are at the discretion of the entrant, but must reflect the competition’s objectives (see "Objectives").

DEADLINE

All submissions must be received by the competition sponsor in Pittsburgh by no later than 4:00 p.m. (EST) on January 31, 2006. This is not a postmark deadline. The actual boards must be received by the given day and time.

Competitors are solely responsible for ensuring their entry arrives on time. The sponsors recommend competitors contract with a shipping or delivery service that guarantees delivery and provides a tracking number. Deliveries may be made in person to the same address. The competition management is not responsible for any materials, which do not arrive on time, or arrive in a condition that renders them unsuitable for display or judging.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Entrants may register for the competition here. Registration fees are non-refundable and may only be paid via credit card on line. Each entrant will be assigned a unique registration number. Unregistered entries or entries submitted without a registration number will not be juried.

ELIGIBILITY

This competition is open to Architects, Landscape Architects, Urban Designers, Engineers, Industrial Designers, Artists, and Students. Entrants may submit as individuals or as a part of a team. Multi-disciplinary teams are encouraged to enter.

No partner, associate, or employee of any Jury member may participate in the competition, nor may any Jury member compete in association with, advise, or assist a competitor in any way. No employee or family member of an employee of the Riverlife Task Force may participate in this competition. If it is determined that a competitor is in any material way related to a juror or Riverlife Task Force, that competitor’s project will be disqualified.

Stage I entrants do not need to evidence previous experience or specific expertise with bridge building. However, those selected to move forward to Stage II of the competition would need to assemble an appropriately qualified team of professionals to develop their proposals and be considered for the Stage II stipend, the top prizes, and any further negotiation for the commission to design the West End Pedestrian Bridge.
